Industry Highlights 2008 Cape Town International Boat Show 2008 The 2008 CTIBS hosted over 16000.00 show visitors and approximately 160 exhibitors. Industry Breakfast Members of industry gathered at the CTBi Industry Breakfast for the reveal of the latest industry research findings. Jumpstart The Jumpstart Programme is aimed at empowering entrepreneurs and it aims to assist and “coach” new entrants to the Boating Industry. China The boatbuilders participated in the Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of relations between South Africa and People’s Republic of China in Beijing and Shanghai. Miami International Boat Show The 4th consecutive year South African boatbuilding companies where at the Miami Strictly Sail boat show. ABYC CTBi in collaboration with ABYC an organisation established to set standards for safer boat, hosted international skills transfer workshops. False Bay College Boatbuilding Academy Launch and Open Day The upgraded Boatbuilding academy re-launched in their newly equipped premises in the Westlake Business Park housing state of the art equipment ICOMIA The South African Boatbuilding industry is recognised as a competitive boatbuilding nation, and is signed up as an official member of ICOMIA. Rollout of CTBi Membership First membership fees programme which was approved at the 2008 CTBi Annual General Meeting. South African Boatbuilders Industry Guide 2009 CTBi publishes the South African Boatbuilding Industry Guide for 2009. Strategy Sessions CTBi hosts a Strategy sessions to map the way forward for the industry associations. Industry Research CTBi with the financial support of the Provincial Government of the Western Cape have contracted an Independent Research Company, to conduct an all inclusive industry strategic research report. CTBi AGM The CTBi AGM was hosted at the Radisson Hotel in Granger Bay. SABS meeting The meeting subject was to explain to the industry the SABS new rules and procedures along with where the committees & technical groups are likely to be reshuffled. CTBi Workshops CTBi hosts various workshops through out the year addressing matters of industry interest.

Industry Highlights 2006 - Nominees for Cruising World Magazine "Boat of the Year": Cruising Catamaran division has 3 SA built boats out of 6. These are Gunboat 48, St. Francis 50 and Jaguar 36 from Charter Cats SA
- St. Francis 50 wins "Cruising Catamaran of the Year" Award from Cruising World Magazine.
- World Class Boatshows are annual events in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
- Inaugural South African Boat Building Awards held with over 300 guests attending.
- The Sillouette 760 from Matrix Yachts is Star of the Show at Strictly Sail at the Miami International Boat Show, and the South African National Pavilion wins the Best of Show Award

- Dean Catamarans nominated as one of the top 10 boats at Grand Pavois, La Rochelle
- All 3 nominees in the Cruising World Magazine under 40ft Cruising Category for "Boat of the Year" are from SA, Maxim 380, Moorings 400 and Admiral 38
- Winner of "Imported Boat of the Year" by Cruising World Magazine is the Moorings 400 built by Robertson & Caine.
- "City of Durban" competes in 2005-2006 Clipper Race
Industry Highlights 2004 - Gunboat 62 from Gunboat SA wins Cruising World Magazine "Boat of the Year Innovation Award".
Industry Highlights 2003 - Prestige Inflatables wins 2 major contracts to supply inflatable craft to Europe and USA increasing production from 450 units in 2002 to 2250 units in 2003. This is to supply Ribeye in the UK and Brunswick Corporation in the USA.
- "City of Cape Town" named yacht competes in the 2002-2003 Clipper Race.
- Aerodyne 47 Monohull cruiser-racer named "Full Size Cruising Boat of the year" by Cruising World Magazine for 2003.
- Island Spirit 40 catamaran named in Sail Magazine Top 10 for 2003.
- Voyage 580 catamaran wins "Cruising Multihull of the Year" from Cruising World Magazine.
Industry Highlights 2002 - Locally designed and built Voyage Yachts 440 cruising catamaran wins Sail Magazine's "Cruising Yacht of the Year" award in America
- Leopard 42 cruising catamaran by Robertson & Caine places in Sail Magazine's Top 10.
- First International"ln-the-Water" Boatshow is held in October in the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town. Key journalists from 10 major marine magazines attend. This will be an annual event to showcase our innovative and award winning marine industry.
- World renowned sailor and explorer Skip Novak commissions a local shipyard to build his new "Pelagic", a custom high latitude aluminum expedition yacht.
- Gemini Inflatables is the preferred supplier of inflatable craft to the NSRI in South Africa as well as the Australian Military and Singapore Navy.
- Stealth Marine builds inflatable craft used by the Hong Kong Police and California Sheriff's Department.
Industry Highlights 2001 - Shearwater Yachts wins the "Cruising Boat of the Year" award in America with it's locally designed and built Shearwater 45 from Cruising World Magazine.
- Robertson & Caine deliver the 150th yacht to The Moorings Charter Company.
Industry Highlights 2000 - Aerodyne 38 cruiser/racer monohull wins 'The "Boat of the Year" award from Cruising World Magazine.
- Harvey Yachts outbids 5 international boatbuilders and wins the contract to build the range of new generation hi-tech hi-speed Melvin Morelli 62ft cruising catamarans.
- South African designed and built maxi sloop "Nicorette" wins the 2000 Sydney to Hobart yacht race powered by a set of sails built in Cape Town.
- South African Boatbuilders Business Council Ltd is formalised with 35 members and receives official Export Council status from the Department of Trade & Industry thus joining 22 other Export Councils as export champions.
Industry Highlights 1999 - Locally designed (Carkeek) and locally built (Harvey Yachts) IMS racing yachts wins the prestigious Kings Cup Regatta in Spain.
- Locally designed and buiit Island Spirit 37 cruising catamaran from Fortuna Yachts places in the Sail Magazine Top 10 competition announced at the Annapolis Boat Show.
