CTBi Industry Breakfast 2008

Yacht and Boat Building qualification

The CTBi has been instrumental in revising the first South African boat building qualification first registered in 2006.  With three years of course delivery under our belts, we have made significant changes to the qualification to align it with international standards and ensure a balance between the theoretical and practical components of the course.  The all new and streamlined qualification will be approved by the South African Qualifications Authority soon.

False Bay College, a Further Education and Training provider in South Africa, currently are the only institution offering this qualification in the country. They are based in Westlake in Cape Town and the Boat Building Academy boats a state-of-the-art workshop and equipment. The boat building course at the Academy is intensive and highly practical, with half the time spent at the Academy and half the time on work  placement with industry where they apply their theoretical knowledge and skills.  The course is accredited with the Mechanical, Engineering and Related Services SETA (Sector Education Training Authority) and is nationally recognised.

Local Short courses

Currently a laminating short course is available to the industry and members of the public at False Bay College.  We are working closely with the college and other training providers to be able to offer a range of short courses in future.
